Good news and bad news: an official announcement from DJ Jinx
Hi everyone. I have some good news and bad news for you. As is usual with such things, I'll give you the two pieces of bad news first:
Now the good news:
We will be replacing Pandaemonium with a new event called Hydra. It will take place on what was formerly Pandaemonium's date, i.e. the second Wednesday of every month. The first one will be on August 11.
Hydra is intended to be a sort of "industrial variety show," where every month we will have at least 3 different DJs and, occasionally, bands. The schedule of who is playing when will be posted at http://www.angelsofdisruption.com/hydra/ as well as on Facebook, so you will be able to know ahead of time exactly when your favorite band or DJ is likely to be around and what genres they will be playing.
Cover for this event will be $5 when DJs are playing, and in most cases around $8 when bands are playing.
There will be two bands at the August Hydra, namely Promonium Jesters and Nanochrist, so the cover will be $8. All other details are the same as our other events, i.e. it is at Soda, the show starts at 9 pm, etc.
Promonium Jesters have come to Calgary multiple times in the past, and have said that our city is one of their favorite places to tour, so if you like industrial-rock please come out and support them! You can check out their music and Nanochrist's here:

If you or someone you know is interested in playing at Hydra, either as a DJ or as a band, please contact DJ Jinx at dj_jinx@angelsofdisruption.com.
That's all for now. We hope to see you at Chimera on Thursday, July 29 and/or at Hydra on Wednesday, August 11.
Thank you as always for your support,
- DJ Jinx
I primarily like looking at the commercial exhibits; I'm not much for the rides other than the skyride and possibly a ferris wheel or two. So if you like to go on lots and lots of rides, I probably won't be good company for you since I'll just be standing around a lot.
I also have a slight preference for going during the day, because I like seeing animals and the odds of that seem to decrease as it gets to be later in the evening.
I'm definitely not available on the following days due to previous plans: Wed July 14 (Pandaemonium), Thurs July 15 (recovering from Pandaemonium), Sat July 17 (Conspiracy and Discordia), Sun July 18 (recovering from Conspiracy and Discordia). I should have at least some time available on all the other days though, albeit not necessarily the evening free (e.g. Sat July 10 I'll be busy in the evening with Mauler's Bday - thanks for the non-FB invite!
)
From what I've seen so far, Vampirefreaks looks like the motherlode for finding underage goths, so it should be useful for promoting one of the two events I have coming up, and which I'm going to announce officially now:
On Saturday, July 17, there is going to be a "double header" at Soda!
First, an all-ages industrial/gothic/metal event, Conspiracy, from 5 pm to 9 pm, cover $4.
Then, second, Discordia, a retro 80s/90s + goth/industrial event, from 9 pm onward, cover $8.
If you are over 18, you have two choices here:
Given the price of alcohol these days, both of these offers amount to getting even more for your money than Chimera, so between that and it being the weekend, I hope to see you there if you're interested. All the more so too if you used to go to the Warehouse "in the old days," because you'll definitely be hearing a few songs that will be familiar from then.
Note: This is different than what I originally told the door people re: how I wanted the two events to work, but I think this is a better arrangement for a) being simpler and b) encouraging more people to come to Soda earlier.
Posters behind the cut!Pandaemonium is tomorrow (i.e. later today). DJ Chameleon is guest DJing.
Hope to see you there. The last 24 hours or so have been interesting on this front, as it seems that the main DJ (Kosmonaut) had major technical problems with his equipment, necessitating having someone else fill in.
(As an aside: This sort of thing is why I adamantly refuse to DJ off of a computer. I'm not saying "I told you so" or meaning to put him down for making that choice, but I'm just stating a fact re: it would do nothing good for my nerves if I had to worry about random crashes affecting my ability to DJ.)
Due to various coincidences of who-had-who's-phone-number, I get the impression I heard about this earlier than most, and hence received the offer earlier than most.
Problem is though, I'm trying to enjoy some time off here, which has already been marred somewhat by lingering end-of-semester administrivia, and general upheaval of my living space due to bathroom renovations that my family is helping me with. So I had really wanted to just go to Datalink and hang out / drink, not be working.
That said, I figured "better I work than have no event at all," so initially I tentatively agreed to DJ. I thought it better, however, to try to pass the opportunity on to others - an endeavour that has since been confirmed as successful.
Thus, the DJs tomorrow will be Astroboi (who I thought, had the situation been less erratic, should have been the first point of contact for Datalink after Kosmonaut anyway) and Metalmaester (whose guest DJing I raved about back in January). Metalmaester I think is probably doing the bulk of it though, mainly because I got hold of him earlier than Astroboi. Again, the randomness of who-had-whose-phone-number seems to have played a considerable role in how things turned out in general with this whole situation... possibly in combination with Kosmonaut's liking the phone about as much as I like Facebook, or so I've inferred anyway.
In any case, I'll be heading down to the Distillery around 9 tomorrow to check out the new Datalink. Hope to see you there.
1) My supervisor asked me to meet with her tomorrow at 3. This will be after I'd have taught my class at noon, which will in turn be after having got up at 9 whilst having gone to bed in the 3:30-4 AM range after Chimera. I don't think this situation bodes well for my making it to tea, i.e. I think it is more likely that by the time I'm doing meeting my supervisor I will just want to go home and crash. So assume I won't be at tea tomorrow unless I text around to say otherwise.
2) I had started asking around to see if anyone wanted to go to a play called the Abortion Monologues. Unfortunately though, I found out from my colleagues at Mount Royal that the play is already sold out, so I guess that's not going to work out. I hope it is at least sold out because of people who actually want to go and not because some pro-life organization bought the tickets to keep them out of circulation or something. Either way though, looks like it won't work out to go now, so sorry dark_nymph!
Since I'm here anyway though, I also wanted to mention:
I've heard from several people now that the Warehouse/Underground has closed permanently.
I can't say I'm sorry to see it go either, since aside from Datalink, I've been thinking for awhile (the last few years at least) that the place has been like some suffering old dog who really should just be euthanized instead of waiting around for it to die. Too bad for the organizer of Datalink, and too bad for any haters of mine who want somewhere subcultural to go other than Chimera, but no big personal loss to me.
One question this raises in my mind though is: if there is no Warehouse, doesn't that mean there is no weekend competition for events? And does this also mean that having two events a month is sustainable as opposed to just one?
The interesting thing about the timing of all this is that I was going to talk to D tonight anyway, since Chimera is tonight.
If you have thoughts on this subject, please let me know, preferably before 7 PM today. Not that I have concrete plans of what to do yet, or expect to have anything confirmed by tonight, or even have much of an idea of what might be possible. But I do want to start thinking and planning ASAP, in case there are some good opportunities here...
Oh, and on an unrelated note: if you're wondering why I'm up at this time when I work in the evening, it's because my orthodontic wire broke and I am going to an appointment to get it fixed in an hour or so here. It's pretty hard to eat when you have a wire stabbing you in the tongue constantly, so I really need it dealt with ASAP. Otherwise there's no way I'd schedule something like that for the same day as Chimera. In fact, last I heard the number who said they were going on FB is getting perilously close to the club's official fire regulation capacity. Perhaps the "free booze" thing also has contributed to this situation.
I would thus suggest that since the club opens at 8, if you're coming tonight you might consider showing up before 10 pm if possible, because if there's a lineup it's not exactly fun to be standing there in -20 C weather.
Hope to see you tonight in any case.
... but I have two updates that aren't reflected on these posters as of when I printed them:
I'm thinking I will also probably try Bushido and Priape, I just didn't get those ones done today. Additionally, I would like to at least try giving them to Detox and Little Shop of Pleasures, but seeing as how that is at the opposite end of town from me, I was wondering if there is anyone who is more regularly in the Chinook Mall area who is coming to Chimera tonight. If so could I give you some fliers to take to these folks?
If you have other ideas as to stores I should try asking for sponsorship from, please let me know.
