Ophidian Convolutions

And speaking of evolution...

...someone wrote this interesting article about why sparkly vampires would actually make at least vague, heavily-suspension-of-disbelief-flavoured, evolutionary sense.

I hate to admit it, but this actually makes me kind of curious to know more about how vampires are thought to work in Twilight.

You see, the thing is, I also wrote a story with vampires who are insectine-based.

Naturally, mine are way scarier and more awesome, if I do say so myself:

They have the gross insect mouth-parts happening, for instance.  They also appear as demonic insect beings on the astral plane: see here and here.  Light makes them hiss like cockroaches.

I doubt Twilight "tries" in the same way as this to "make" the vampires insectine, but still, the whole notion has caught my interest.

Of course, having brought that up, now I'm just picturing Grand Inquisitor Treacheris slaughtering various Twilight characters ("Sissy Mormons!  I'll show you real religion!"), but there you go.

While I'm on this, shameless plug: if you haven't read my novel, links to all the entries that make it up can be found here.  If you do want to read it (not that I expect that, as I know it's long and entails a lot of myspace-journal-reading in its current, first-draft-satisfactory-but-not-final-version state) maybe do it in the order that pages lists, or there might be spoilers in the vampire-related links above.  Similarly, because of how journaling normally works, if you try to read the story by going to characters' myspace pages, you'll just end up reading it in reverse chronological order, which is why I have the one page in the link I just gave that puts all the excerpts in the correct order.

i have actually had the misfortune of reading the first 1.5 twilight books. after that, the writing was so abhorrent i had to quit for the sake of being sensible. [critique of the writing aside:] from my understanding, the twilight vampires cannot be seen in mirrors, sparkle in the sun, have immense speed and strength, and each has a different sort of psychic or telekinetic gift. some can read minds, others can incinerate fellow vampires, etc. they are certainly superhuman, but lacking any surprising new evolutionary features.

e.V.: Cool, I was hoping someone would chime in on this. i.e. thanks for saving me some of the trouble of reading it. :)

I've read em' all.(Don't look at me like that!) lol
It all started a couple of years ago when my little sister started reading them with her friends. Since she lives on the other side of Canada, I started reading them so we could talk about them. It was something we could "do together" even though we're far apart. But all that aside, E.V is correct, the writing gets worse and worse as the books go on. By the 4th there are continuity errors and spelling mistakes EVERYWHERE! The story lacks much that would hold the attention of anyone over the age of 17 (My sister is 16). It seems to be less about vampires and more about teenage girl lust, sexual frustration and "waiting until marriage" *eyeroll*. Regardless, in the land of vampires, I wouldnt really include anything in Twilight. lol But then again, I'm still bias due to my love of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.
