A Few Questions
- 1) What is the significance of the key-like component of the title graphic?
- It's my visual interpretation of the phrase "Chaos Key," which is what the name Thiyavat means in the Angellic tongue. In contemporary Rhadixe, the symbol is associated with Jinx's band, which is called Angels of Disruption. This is why it also appears on Vyrus' t-shirt.
- 2) Why do people have such silly names?
- It's my way of satirizing people in the goth scene who change their names to things like "Raven" and "Shadow." The Tenebrae habit of adopting "dark" names reflects the fact that they have been feared and persecuted for the entirety of their history - they realize and accept, albeit with varying degrees of reluctance or resolution, that they are perceived as diabolical by other races.
- 3) Where did you get the God and Goddess' names from?
- "Enuzir" is an anagram for "Urizen," William Blake's oppressive God. "Anihkesh" is an anagram for "Shekinah," God's female counterpart in mystical Judaism. Incidentally, those interested in Qabalah may notice a parallel between Rhadixe/Codixe/Thallixe/Apixe and Assiah/Yetzirah/Briah/Atziluth. On the other hand, if that means nothing to you, don't worry about it. (re: this last bit, see also question 7 below.)
- 4) Where did you get the races' names from?
- The names of the human races are vaguely Latin-based. "Celesti" refers to the heavens, "Solari" to the sun, "Lunae" to the moon and "Tenebrae" to darkness/night. With the exception of "Luminaries" (refers to light), the Angellic races' names are variations on legendary races, such as demons, sylphs, fay, geni/djinn, naiads, etc.
- 5) Is it just me or are the sexual intrigues in this story unusually complicated?
- Many of the characters are bisexual. Bisexuality is considered normal in Tenebrae society because it maximizes one's chances of gratification.
- 6) Why does such-and-such Tenebrae character look like me?
- See disclaimer on the Overview page. That said, if you think you look like either Treacheris or Sorrow, feel free to e-mail me pictures. ;)
- 7) You know all that stuff you say about Spheres and travel between worlds? I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
- Don't worry about it. It's not that important to the story, I've mainly got it noted here for reference purposes.
- 8) Is there any connection between the character Jinx, Marilyn Manson, and your DJ name (also "Jinx")?
- The conflict between the Inqusition and Jinx is heavily inspired by the controversy that occurred in the goth scene at the height of Marilyn Manson's popularity. As I began DJing toward the end of that era, and considered myself both a fan of Manson's music and a goth perfectly capable of understanding that Manson's music is "not goth", I adopted the name 'Jinx' to express - if only privately, to myself - my dislike of those who took it upon themselves to judge others simply on the basis of their musical preferences, thus behaving as if they were the 'Inquisitors' of our scene. That said, it should be noted that I bear those individuals no ill will now, and for the sake of my inspiration am in fact happy to have encountered them.
- 9) I want to read this story. Why aren't you done it yet?
- Because writing takes time, the story itself is complicated, and I am often preoccupied by my academic pursuits. (The good news there though is that there is some connection between my religious studies interests and this novel, which helps progress somewhat.) Also I tend to get distracted by side projects such as writing plays and making music.
